Are You In Need of Termite Control Services?

Here in Mt. Pleasant, Concord, Albemarle, Salisbury, Charlotte and surrounding areas, we are all too familiar with termite problems.  There are many reasons termites may have chosen your property, but the important thing is to be able to recognize the warning signs of a termite infestation before the problem gets out of control.

Here are some things to look out for to better determine if you may be in need of termite control services:

  • Damaged wood or high moisture areas - These areas are especially attractive to termites.  They may not indicate a termite infestation, but they are the first places you should look for some of the other warning signs.
  • Spring swarming termites - In the spring, some termites leave the nest to start new colonies. They look similar to flying ants, but they can be easily identified if you look at nearby spider webs.  Hundreds will leave the nest at one time, making it clear that these are in fact termites. If you spot a cloud of swarming termites, check your home for other warning signs or give us a call.
  • Shelter tubes - Because termites are tiny and relatively defenseless, they build what are known as shelter tubes to help them move safely around when they are not in pieces of wood.  These tubes look like tiny brown straws, and they can be found around the foundations of homes, in crawlspaces, and in attics.  If you find a tube, you may choose to cut a piece from it and wait a few days.  If you return to find a repaired tube, then there are active termites present.
  • Termite cement or dirt in wood - Termites need a place with low air flow and high moisture.  They will seal off cracks and holes to create better living conditions.  This can sometimes be seen as dirt in holes or wood that shouldn’t be there.

Even though there are some warning signs, it is incredibly difficult for the untrained eye to identify termites and termite damage.  This is whytermite control services are essential. If you suspect termites in or around your home or you would like precautionary termite control services,
