Do You Have Bed Bugs?

Bed bugs.

These two words can make people incredibly uneasy.

Bugs are creepy enough, but the thought of them lurking in our safe, warm bed is just too much.  The fact is, they are real and need to be addressed.  We wanted to give you some important tips to find out if you are a victim of bed bugs.  However, the best way to determine if you do have bed bugs is to call on our trained professionals.

  1. Strange bites - Do you wake up with strange bug bites?  Bed bug bites tend to be red and itchy. They stay in a straight line rather than show up all around, and they will usually be on the shoulders and arms.  It is important to note that many other insects can cause suspicious bites, but if this happens regularly, it may be a sign of bed bugs.
  2. Seeing spots - If you examine your sheets, do you see red or dark spots?  This is also a sign of bed bugs.  The red spots are your blood, while the dark spots could be a number of things, including dead bugs.  You should also examine your mattress and box spring.
  3. Catching them in action - You can see bed bugs if you know where to look.  Terrifying, we know. They are most active an hour before dawn, so if you set an alarm you may catch one.  Move slowly and carefully.  Keep a flashlight by your bed.  You may see them moving on sheets, inside and around your nightstand, on your curtains, around your baseboards, etc.
  4. Use a trap - You can purchase bed bug traps from local supply stores; however, these are only for detection purposes.  It may take up to 2 to 4 weeks to actually catch one, and the trap will not catch them all.
